Vina Dimayuga on road to gold

 
Local singer selected for Team Canada in the 2011 World Championship of Performing Arts

WINNIPEG – Eleven-year-old singer Vina Dimayuga has been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2011 World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) from July 15 to 24 in Hollywood, California.

Known as the “Talent Olympics,” the WCOPA hosts over 5000 participants from 52 countries. Vina will be competing in the Junior Vocal Division in five categories – Broadway Musical, Pop, Open, Variety and World.

As a Grade 6 student at St. Edwards School, Vina is an avid member of the school choir and attends the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s musical theatre program. She is also is involved with Magdaragat Performing Arts. Last November, Vina took home the top prize in junior category of the CKJS Tuklas Talino singing contest.

The daughter of Paige and Jorge Dimayuga, Vina has been singing since the age of seven. She has performed at the opening ceremonies of Folklorama, Manitoba Moose hockey games, Winnipeg Blue Bombers football games, Canada Day Celebrations and at the Filipino Basketball League tournaments. She has also performed in productions such as Joy Lazo’s Miracle on Main Street, which helped to raise money in support of Winnipeg Harvest and Siloam Mission. She is currently wrapping up a project called Urban Harmony with other up-and-coming Winnipeg artists.
