Aksyon ng Ating Kabataan (ANAK) hosted their third annual Philippine Heritage Liwayway Conference on May 22 at the University of Winnipeg. Sixty high school students participated in this year’s conference, which focused on the theme of Pamunuan or Leadership. Young Filipino-Canadian professionals shared the relevance of their identity and heritage in their chosen career paths.

Do it because you want to, not because you have to,” advised keynote speaker and TecVoc teacher, Emil Contreras who underlined the importance of everyday goals. Students were divided into workshops with the band SWIGFU, Ivy Lopez-Sarmiento, Dr. Gilbert Miranda, and Dr. Raphael Nepomuceno.

A gala celebration at the Marigold Restaurant on Ellice capped off the annual event later that evening.

ANAK would like to thank all the speakers, volunteers, and sponsors for their continued support. Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat!
