Winnipeg’s Aimee Intac-Leung was recognized this month on the world stage for her two decades of work as an engineer. She received the prestigious Women in Energy Award at the International Council on Large Electric Systems’ (CIGRE) Flagship Global Event in Paris, France.
Aimee, Vice President and HVDC Regional Sales Manager for Canada at Hitachi Energy, was recognized for her technical achievements, industry leadership, mentorship and advocacy in advancing the energy sector.
For more than 20 years, Aimee has worked on major transmission initiatives that help deliver reliable electricity, modernize power grids and support the integration of large-scale new energy resources. Her expertise spans high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, project management, digital transformation, procurement, operations, cybersecurity and compliance.
Aimee’s combination of technical knowledge and strategic leadership has made her a trusted voice in an industry undergoing rapid change.
“The energy sector has the power to transform lives, and this motivates me throughout my career. Whether advancing HVDC technology, supporting grid modernization, or mentoring future leaders, I believe our greatest achievements come from creating a lasting impact for both society and the people who shape its future.”
Aimee believes that the energy industry needs people who are prepared to keep learning and to step into opportunities, especially women and others who may not traditionally have seen themselves represented in technical and leadership roles.
“The energy industry needs people who are curious and willing to keep learning because the technologies and the challenges are changing very quickly, and I would specially encourage young women and underrepresented talent to see themselves as future technical and business leaders in the industry.”
Aimee’s international recognition comes only months after she was celebrated much closer to home. In May 2026, Pinays Manitoba recognized Aimee as one of its Trailblazer Award recipients, honouring her accomplishments and contributions as a Filipino Canadian woman in the community.
As the world faces growing demands for electricity, energy security and a transition toward new energy sources, leaders like Aimee are helping shape what comes next. For young women and aspiring professionals watching her journey, perhaps her greatest message is this: there is a place for you at the table, too.
