IKAW championships

Families and friends enjoyed gut-wrenching basketball action as the International Kabayan Association of Winnipeg (IKAW) basketball league wrapped up their 19^th successful season on May 1, 2011. Championship Sunday always brings out the best in players and once again, their passion was left on the court. In the 48 plus division, Tri-M Windows defeated Blackjack Loralee in a nail-biter. Blackjack came from behind with 10 points in the second half but fell just short as Tri-M persevered in a 47-46 win.

In the 39 plus division, the Guimbanians defended their title against Jojo Villanueva’s Team. The Open division championship was awarded to the high-energy team of Perfect Smile as they defeated Diligent in the late game. The league committee members were thrilled by the success of the season and would like to thank all the trophy donors, parents, volunteers, friends and all the fans that came out. For next year, Jerry Medina and his team would like you all to join them for their 20th year, which will include a kid’s league (6-13 years), free of charge.
