Winnipeg teams found themselves battling in the finals in six divisions at the seventh annual Filipino Basketball Association of North America (FBA) Tournament held in Houston, Texas on September 3 and 4.
The Midget Boys took the championship against Bergen, New Jersey. Coaches Mr. and Mrs. Edic credited the win to the team’s “hard-nosed break down defense, which led to easy steals and layups.”
From the hotel accommodations, the mall, the pool, the opening ceremonies, the three game venues and special guests, Kenneth Duremdes, Yoyoy Villamin and Leo Isaac of the PBA, to the closing ceremonies, athletes, fans and families were treated to a weekend full of entertainment. The competition and the basketball itself worked out for Winnipeg too. Commissioner Manny Arañez and the committee reported that they were “proud of the outcome of the whole tournament. Winnipeg competed hard and all the hard work leading up to the competition paid off.”
