Typhoon Emong dispersed and the skies cleared as boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao arrived in the Philippines on May 8th to be with his family and his fans. According to media reports, the traditional motorcade and his scheduled visit to Malacañang were postponed until the following Monday due to uncertain weather forecasts. Nonetheless, he still had a very busy first day back home. From the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, he prayed at Quiapo Church, visited the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and had lunch at the San Miguel Corp. headquarters. From there, he had a meeting with PLDT-Smart chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, a mini-concert at the SM Mall of Asia and dinner with executives of his media partner Solar Entertainment made his day. His called it a day at 10:00 p.m. when he was in his suite at The Renaissance in Makati.

On Sunday, “He said he slept well – probably his best sleep since the day he beat Hatton,” said Team Pacquiao member Jake Joson. He added that when Pacquiao woke up, the first thing he asked was to be brought to Manila to visit the old L&M Gym where he used to train, which is now being converted into an apartment/dormitory. “It was an unannounced visit and as expected he was mobbed,” said Joson.

Pacquiao finally arrived home in his native General Santos City after a day of celebration in Manila.

The People’s Champ went around General Santos accompanied by his mother Nanay Dionesia to greet thousands of his supporters who lined up in the streets despite the rains.

After touring General Santos, the boxer went to his “second home” in Sarangani, where he is reportedly planning to run for congressman in 2010.
