Andrea won the guaranteed finalist position for Winnipeg on April 13 after a weeklong campaign of nationwide online and text voting that followed the airing of the Winnipeg performances on YTV and CMT on April 6. She will go on to compete for the $5000 prize against nine other singers from across Canada in the finale of Karaoke Star Jr. on May 18 in Calgary. Hundreds of young singers trooped to the Portage Place Shopping Mall to audition for a chance to compete in Karaoke Star Jr. last February 1. From this group, only five singers were chosen to perform before a panel of celebrity judges at Bernie Wolfe Community School the following day. Of the five, three were from Winnipeg’s Filipino Canadian community; Moise Duot (14), April Rose Llave (10) and Andrea Macasaet (14). Their outstanding performances earned them all raves from judges Danny Fernandez, Tara Oram and Rusty Matyas. “My heart is pounding right out of my body. You are incredible!,” said judge Tara Oram of Andrea’s rendition of Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis. Both Andrea and Moises are Tuklas Talino Junior Champions, while Andrea is a two-time Tuklas champ, winning again last November in the Adult category (14 years and older).
