| Anita Lubosch turns singers into performers |

As someone who’s spent years performing on stage, Anita Lubosch, has always had an interest in understanding what goes into creating a memorable performance. After more than 4,000 performances on tour across Canada with several bands, playing keyboards, guitar and singing, Anita understands what it takes to make a good performance great. On January 9, 2010, Anita will share her experience and knowledge with local aspiring performers in a workshop entitled Own the Stage: The Ultimate Performance Workshop for Singers at the CMU (Canadian Mennonite University), 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard. Members of Winnipeg’s Filipino community may remember Anita as one of the Grand Finals judges at Pilipino Express’ Pinoy Pop Star competition last March. In addition to her performance background, Anita is also a film music composer and has worked on movie sets as a sound recordist and in post-production as a sound editor and effects designer. However, her real passion has always been music and performing on stage. “I know how hard it can be to get up on the stage and make it work,” says Anita. “I’ve watched so many singers struggle for the attention of their audience and I just want to jump up on the stage and help them out because they can’t see their show from the audience’s perspective.” According to Anita, there is a way to capture an audience’s attention and hold it – and it’s not rocket science. “Think about how quickly you could advance as an artist and performer if you could learn more about what audiences expect and how to meet and exceed those expectations,” says Anita. According to this veteran performer, small changes in a singer’s performance can take that singer from being good to being a performer who truly owns the stage. One of the best ways to accomplish that, says Anita, is by seeing and experiencing the transformation first hand. “I recently went down to the US to learn from a live producer who’s working with some top-level recording artists who have Billboard hits. Even with my years of experience, I sought him out because I know that if I want to create a great show, I need to work with someone who can give me the feedback. I don’t want to leave it up to chance when it comes to creating a live show because I want to leave the audience more than satisfied – I want to leave them wanting more!” Anita added that while there are many good singing teachers available, their methods focus mainly on developing the vocal instrument. “I want to take singers and musicians a step further by extending their focus to being a performer and an artist.”
