ANAK

 Pamunuan? Are you one?

So, tell me – what have you got planned for tomorrow? Well, how about the tomorrow after that? If you’re in high school and thinking about what comes after, these questions can’t be too far from your brain. Are you ready for the next step? Don’t answer that just yet – just keep on reading.

ANAK wants you to think about your role in our tomorrow as Filipino-Canadians in Winnipeg. Each day and the day after will have to mean something to us youth. So, where do you want to fit in?

ANAK (in partnership with the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg Filipino Students’ Association) will be holding its annual Liwayway Philippine Heritage High School Conference on Friday May 22 at the University of Winnipeg. This year’s theme, Pamunuan (Leadership), will host a mix of workshops from our community’s young leaders.

From business to music, health to education, these workshops will give some valuable insight on the career path that interests you. Take it from someone who has already walked miles in those Filipino-Canadian shoes you’re looking to fill: Ivy Lopez-Sarmiento (Youth Business Counsellor, SEED Winnipeg), SWIGFU (R&B/Rap Artists), Dr. Gilbert Miranda (Maples Chiropractic), Raphael Nepomuceno (UM – Medicine graduating student) and Emil Contreras (Tec-Voc High School Teacher).

Then when it’s all said and done, take a break from life’s big questions and celebrate. Join us, parents, and guests, for the Liwayway Conference Gala evening at the Marigold Restaurant, 1380 Ellice Avenue, featuring SWIGFU and DJ Art. Hey, we’ve come this far. It’s time to celebrate where we’re heading!

If you’re in grade 10, 11, or 12, register now! Space is limited! Registered participants will take part in the conference and gala evening free of charge. The public is invited to purchase tickets for the gala evening – $15.
