The 2017 South Saskatchewan Chess Championship was held in Regina from February 17 to 19. A total of 53 players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Northwest Territories, and France – including one FIDE Master and four National Masters (NM) – battled one of the toughest competitions in Canada. Eight rated Manitoban chess players participated in the weekend tournament. In the end, Winnipeg’s Nilo Moncal tied for third place with Saskatachewan’s NM Robert Sasata. NM Daniel Kazmaier and Isaac Wiebe tied for first place. | ![]() |
